July 2026
July’s big news: after a car-free 5 years, we bought a car. We decided to buy a car again probably 2 summers ago, mostly to be able to easily go enjoy the amazing parks and other outdoor activities when it’s not dark and rainy.
Seattle’s public transportation is one of my favorite parts of living here, but the state of Washington has so much more to offer than what’s reasonably accessible by public transportation. We tried renting cars a few times, which was fine, but a hassle.
When we bought a condo, it included a parking spot, which eliminated my biggest objection to car ownership. We lived in Seattle from June 2016-Sept 2017 and paid an outlandish amount (hundreds a month, I can’t recall exactly) to park at our apartment and barely used the car. You could say we’re overpaying for parking still, but it’s built into our mortgage now. That makes it an easier pill to swallow, right?
The details: 2026 Hyundai Ioniq 5, Limited Trim, Digital Teal.
Other notables from July 2026:
- We met up with some friends B, S, and their new baby A in West Seattle for a walk along Lincoln Park.
- R and I went on the most ambitious hike I’ve ever done: 14 miles and a ton of elevation: Indian Bar Trail.
