August 2026

·2 mins

August was a mixture of trying to get outside to enjoy the weather and a trip to SF for work.

Staycation #

I took a small staycation/vacation in August, but it didn’t go the way I planned. My plan was to go do something in the water during my vacation. Originally I planned white water rafting, then that plan pivoted to renting a jet-ski, when I couldn’t find great rafting options.

The day of the jet-ski rental I was greeted by this sign:

Needless to say, I just went back home. No water on this vacation, maybe next time.

The highlight of the staycation was Naches Peak Loop Trail that R and I hiked. It would have been even better if we didn’t have to contend with wildfire smoke. This is now the hike I consider the “best” in Rainier in terms of accessibility (since it was relatively easy) and amazing views.

Misc #

  • I read The Righteous Mind.
  • I started reading The Tainted Cup.
  • We went out to dinner with a friend at Chiho Bistro.
  • There’s a new office I can work from in the area! It’s accessible by transit or car. There’s even some views of the Olympic Mountains on a clear day. I haven’t had a local office since 2016-2017! I’m not currently required to go to the office- I’m glad I can choose! I plan to try it out by visiting a couple of days a week.
  • We had a friend over and watched AEW All In. It was different than the normal shows since it was live from London- the show started at 10am instead of the usual 5-6pm. L treated us to one of my favorite southern classic breakfasts: biscuits and gravy.
  • The hotel I stay at in SF for work is pretty fascinating. I snapped a pic of its old US Mail Letterbox.
